History
| Personal History | Elijah was born on the colony world of Eden Prime, at the edges of the Federation. His mother was a nurse and his father was a botanist. He has two siblings, David, who is a year younger, and Lilly, who is two years younger. His life on Eden Prime was a pretty idyllic one. Elijah loved doing anything physical and got involved in swimming, wrestling, and archery when he was a young man. He wasn't as smart as either David or Lilly but did show an aptitude for more practical matters. His parents pushed him to have a career in the sciences but by the time Elijah entered high school, he knew the sciences held little appeal to Elijah. When he was a freshman, an outpost was established on Eden Prime, bringing him into contact with Starfleet for the first time. Elijah loved hearing their stories and soon found himself wanting a career among the stars. After he graduated high school, he joined Starfleet Academy, much to the disappointment of his parents. Elijah loved the diversity of the academy. He became involved in student government, academy archery, and swim teams. He began studying various forms of martial arts from cultures all across the Federation. He threw himself into life at the academy and all that it had to offer. Elijah developed a fondness for tactical and security operations. Although he did reasonably well in his other areas of study, these were the areas that he seemed to really shine in. Elijah was near the top of his class when the Klingon War began. The shock of it soon turned into grim concern. The oldest cadets were soon field deployed and those like Elijah who were third-year cadets found their courses accelerated, compressed, or dropped altogether. Elijah was personally impacted when Klingon raiders attacked Eden Prime. His father was killed, although luckily the rest of the family escaped harm. Ultimately, Elijah and the rest of his classmates graduated early, just over a year into the war. He was assigned to the USS Iowa, a Saladin class scout that likewise had been rushed out of the shipyards. They were rushed to the front lines and joined one of the battle groups facing off against the Klingon advance. The next few months were a grueling retreat with the Saladin in regular action. Elijah was put in charge of the ship's security detachment. After the sudden end of the war, Elijah remained aboard the Iowa. For a while, the ship was on fairly routine peace time patrols of the Federation's borders. During this time, Elijah was promoted to assistant chief tactical officer. Things began to heat up again when the ship was assigned to the Orion Triangle, where skirmishes with both pirates and Klingons were becoming more common. During a battle with an Orion raider, the Iowa's chief tactical officer was killed, resulting in Elijah getting a battlefield promotion to replace her. While on patrol near the Horsehead Nebula, the ship was ambushed by a pair of Klingon birds-of-prey. The ship took severe damage, killing the CO and XO. The chief engineer took command and lured the ships into the nebula, where Elijah used a modified plasma charge to ignite a pocket of ionized gas. The Iowa barely escaped and sustained heavy damage. They were able to limp back to Federation lines and the ship was put into drydock for extensive repairs. Elijah took a few months off before being reassigned to the Challenger as the new chief tactical officer. |
